Why Worry?

I’ve been thinking recently, why do we worry? What’s the point? What’s the reason behind it? It doesn’t get you anywhere… Worrying about a situation is unlikely to stop the situation from happening, so why do we waste our time and effort on panicking over things we can’t control?

I have always been a huge worrier and only in the last few years did I realise that this is because I actually suffer from Anxiety, which explains a lot, except it still doesn’t explain why. What horrid part of our brains thinks ‘I know, she seems to be in a good mood today, let’s ruin that and make her wonder why she isn’t earning more money in her job by now’ or ‘she really hurt that lady’s feelings 10 years ago. Yes she didn’t mean to, but let’s have her ponder a little deeper on that for a while’. Our brains can be so cruel to us sometimes, so why haven’t we yet learned to tell it to shut f#@k up?

Maybe, just maybe, its okay to make mistakes in life and not be happy 100% of the time (I know, its a crazy thought but go with it). To not have your dream job just yet, to be ‘winging it’ most days, not finding the love of your life yet, or to not be earning the big bucks actually might not be the end of the world. Who knew?

With all this in mind, I’ve set myself a challenge. I am going to try and make so many happy memories that there is no longer room for the unnecessary negative ones, and any negative ones that creep though, I will leave with God. No ones perfect after all, we need to cut ourselves some slack.


One of my favourite quotes is “Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow, it empties today of its strength” – how true.

  1. I love this post! Your challenge of crowding out negativity is such a great way to look at things. I really believe in looking for the good and seeking out positive experiences. I think you have amazing things ahead of you. 🙂
